Official Confirmed

Take-Two’s CEO on GTA VI Monetisation: “No Recurrent Consumer Spending Anticipated With Regard to This Launch”

We said the September 17 shareholder meeting would not be a trailer. It was not — but Strauss Zelnick answered a shareholder’s question about monetisation, and the answer is the clearest first-party line yet on what GTA VI will and will not sell you on day one.

Confirmed — these are the CEO of Take-Two’s own words, given in answer to a shareholder at the company’s annual stockholders meeting on September 17, 2026, reported the following day.

The quote: asked about plans for recurrent consumer spending — the industry term for money taken after the initial sale, such as in-game currency, passes and microtransactions — Zelnick said: “We’re launching GTA 6 as a single player experience on two major platforms, and therefore there’s no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch.”

On GTA Online: he said the existing GTA Online remains a robust business and that Take-Two will keep supporting it. He gave no date for a GTA VI online mode, and did not describe one.

On the management question: a shareholder asked whether the board still believed this team should lead the company, citing delays and reliance on a small number of franchises. Zelnick answered that the board “is exceedingly diligent and rigorous and demands high performance from all of our executives, and in the event that the management team did not perform, of course the board would replace that team,” then pointed to the share price being up roughly 1,200% since March 2007 against about 440% for the S&P 500.

The limit of this story: “anticipated with regard to this launch” is a statement about day one, not a promise about the years after it — and Zelnick has never said GTA VI will stay free of paid extras forever. Separately, a shareholder asked about PC; he called the PC platform more and more important and said Take-Two launches where there is a meaningful audience, but he did not tie that to GTA VI and did not confirm a PC version or a date. Treat the PC line as a comment about the business, not an announcement.
