GTA VI database · Music in official footage

GTA 6 Soundtrack

Thirteen tracks that our own audio analysis identified in Rockstar’s trailers and gameplay footage — with the timestamp of every one, so you can hear it yourself. Songs identified by others, with their timestamps, are on the radio page.

Rockstar has named six in-game radio stations but published no station tracklists. On October 8 it named Cocoteo FM, Back Country Radio, AfroBank FM, The Chamber 106.6, Flash FM and Dirty South Classics. On September 17 it announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, 34 original songs out on November 19, but it has not said which station, if any, plays them. Any list that puts a song on a station is not based on anything Rockstar has published. What we did instead was analyse the audio of all three official videos, find every window where music plays, and identify what we could. Every track below is labelled Unverified — identifying a piece of music tells you what it is, not that Rockstar licensed it or which station it sits on. We would rather publish thirteen honest entries than fifty invented ones.

What has happened since. On September 15 a group of artists — Travis Scott, Future, Morgan Wallen, Keith Richards and others — posted GTA VI-styled artwork, and on September 16 Spotify put the same art on billboards in three US cities. That is a campaign, not a tracklist: nobody has said which songs, stations or artists are in the game. The artists’ posts · the billboards.

How we found the music

Music is mixed wide across the stereo field; dialogue is mixed to the centre. Comparing the mid channel against the side channel therefore separates them without any model and without guessing — and it gives you the exact seconds where music is playing clean enough to identify. Across the three videos that came to 15 distinct music windows in the Extended Look, one continuous needle-drop carrying all of Trailer 1, and four shorter cues in Trailer 2.

Ten windows returned no match. That is expected rather than disappointing: in-game radio plays under engine noise, gunfire and speech, which is the hardest case there is for recognition. A miss tells you nothing except that the sample was dirty.

Three results were fakes, and it is worth knowing why. Three clips matched uploads whose titles announce them as GTA 6 theme or rap tracks — because those fan uploads contain the trailer’s own audio, so the fingerprint matched the fan’s file rather than the source. All three were excluded. This is precisely how invented tracklists get started, and it is the reason this page labels everything the way it does.

The spread is the interesting part. Def Leppard, Depeche Mode, Tom Petty and Tammy Wynette alongside Birdman, Kodak Black and Top3 Goato — Phil Collins, The Bellamy Brothers and a Spanish-language dembow track alongside Sexyy Red — at least six formats implied by official footage alone: 80s rock, synth-pop, 70s country-pop, classic country, Latin, and modern hip-hop. If these are station tracks, the dial is very wide.
