Rockstar Faces a Union Fight in the Months Before Launch
Reported by multiple outlets; contested and unresolved. In October 2025, Rockstar dismissed staff across UK and Canadian offices, all reportedly members of a private union Discord — early reports said 30–40; the IWGB says 31 in the UK and three in Canada. Rockstar and Take-Two say the cause was gross misconduct — leaking features from unreleased projects. The IWGB disputes this; its president, Alex Marshall, called it “one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of the game industry,” and the dismissed staff have taken legal action. The Rockstar Game Workers Union launched publicly on May 28, 2026 across all five UK offices. An employment tribunal declined Rockstar’s request to strike blacklisting claims, and the final hearing opened on September 10 and is scheduled to end mid-October. We report the claims on both sides and take no position on the outcome.
Reported — contested, and at the time of writing unresolved.
In October 2025 Rockstar dismissed staff across its UK and Canadian offices. Early reports put the number at 30–40; the IWGB, which represents them, says 31 in the UK plus three in Canada. The union says they were members of a private Discord server used to discuss working conditions, and were fired once management learned of it.
Rockstar’s position is the opposite, and we quote it wherever we cover this: the company says the dismissals were for gross misconduct following the sharing of confidential company information, not for union membership or activity.
Both accounts are on the record and they cannot both be right. That is what the tribunal exists to decide — the final hearing opened in Glasgow on September 10, 2026. Until it rules, anyone telling you which side is lying is guessing.
One thing the dismissed workers have been consistent about: they have asked fans not to boycott GTA 6. They spent years building it.
