Rainbow Six Siege’s Director: “You’re Going to Take a Hit” When GTA VI Drops — Season Four Lands Right Around Then
Ubisoft’s Joshua Mills told The Game Business that every game, in any genre, will lose players to GTA VI’s launch — and that Siege’s Season Four “will drop right around that time”.
Confirmed — these are Joshua Mills’s own words, from an interview with Christopher Dring at The Game Business published on September 22. Mills became creative director of Rainbow Six Siege at Ubisoft earlier this year.
On GTA VI: “We’ve got a massive launch coming with GTA. It doesn’t matter what genre you’re in; you’re going to take a hit when that drops.”
On what Siege will do: “Our golden rule is to serve the players who stay like kings and queens. We don’t go on vacation just because a competitor is swelling the market.” Asked whether Ubisoft would really ship major updates when GTA VI arrives, he said: “Funnily enough, Season Four will drop right around that time… We actually have some unannounced surprises held back to make a splash.”
The limit of this story: this is a rival publisher’s view of GTA VI’s pull, not anything from Rockstar. Mills gave no date for Season Four beyond “right around that time”; GTA VI launches on November 19.
