The Army Confirms It: Fort Stewart Soldiers Are Re-Enlisting for Four Days Off to Play GTA VI

It sounded like a joke; it is a real, Army-confirmed incentive in one battalion. The 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Fort Stewart, Georgia offers a four-day pass timed to the November 19 launch to soldiers who re-enlist for two to six more years — and Lt. Col. Angel Tomko confirmed to CBS News that 20 of about 130 eligible soldiers have already signed.

The deal, first reported mid-August and confirmed on the record by the 3rd Infantry Division, runs from August 1 to November 14: sign a re-enlistment contract of two to six years and you get an authorised four-day pass around GTA VI’s launch day. That on-the-record confirmation from Lieutenant Colonel Angel Tomko is why this one is filed as Reported rather than with the memes: the Army said it, not Rockstar.

A 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson framed it as “a unique incentives program that connects to what soldiers are interested in” — which, in 2026, is apparently Vice City. Twenty of the roughly 130 eligible soldiers in the battalion had re-enlisted under the perk by mid-August.

File it next to the countdown sites and the Netflix premiere parties: the clearest sign yet that November 19 is functioning less like a game release and more like a calendar event institutions plan around.
