Xbox’s Matthew Ball: GTA VI “Will Not Be Streaming Exclusively or to PC”
A day after reports that Xbox had bought exclusive cloud-streaming rights to GTA VI, Xbox’s chief strategy officer says the game will not stream exclusively, and will not stream to PC.
Confirmed — Matthew Ball, Xbox’s chief strategy officer, said it himself in a post on X on October 7, as quoted by Push Square and Dexerto: the game “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”
What he was answering: on October 6, The Verge reported that Xbox had secured exclusive cloud-streaming rights to GTA VI at launch, which would have let people stream it through Xbox Cloud Gaming without owning a console. Ball called the coverage “misreporting”, and Push Square reports The Verge has since edited its article.
What did not change: Ball repeated that GTA VI launches on Xbox on November 19, the same date as everywhere else. Owning the game on a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is still how you play it at launch.
The limit of this story: Ball’s post rules out exclusive streaming and streaming to PC. It does not say what Xbox’s own GTA VI plans are, and neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has said more.
