Rockstar Breaks Its Silence on the Leaks — “Heartbreaking for Our Team”

After a week of leaked gameplay, Rockstar published a statement of its own. “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team.” The statement also, in passing, confirms the footage was genuine.

This is Rockstar speaking in its own name rather than an outlet reporting on it, which is what earns the Confirmed tag. The statement went out the day before the Extended Look aired on Netflix, and it does two things at once.

The first is the apology. Rockstar acknowledges the wait, says the leaks were not how it intended anyone to see the game, and thanks everyone who sent messages of support during the week. The second is quieter and matters more for this database: by calling the leaked videos Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay, Rockstar confirmed the footage was real. Until this point every clip on this site was labelled on the strength of outlet analysis alone.

What the statement does not do: it never names the leaker, gives no account of how the material got out, offers no security detail, and announces no change to the November 19 date. Anyone reading a delay into it is reading something that is not there.
