Miami-Dade’s Sheriff and a Commissioner Want the County Kept Out of GTA VI Marketing
Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez are asking the county to reject a partnership the Mayor’s office explored with Rockstar — including temporarily rebranding Miami International as “Vice City Airport”.
Reported, from the primary source: the county issued the statement itself on September 3. It names the idea being opposed — the Mayor’s office exploring a partnership with Rockstar Games that would include temporarily rebranding Miami International Airport as “Vice City Airport” and using county resources to promote the game.
Bermudez: “We should be promoting the Miami-Dade we have worked so hard to build” rather than a fictional version of it. Cordero-Stutz said that while law enforcement works to reduce violent crime, the county has to consider the message it sends. Bermudez also asks for transparency about any talks with Rockstar and a clear account of the costs and public benefits.
What this is not: a deal. No partnership has been announced, and Rockstar has said nothing publicly. Coverage also reports a separate letter asking that the county’s courthouses be left out of any promotion; that part is reported rather than something we have seen in the original.
