GTA VI Has Localized Storms, Hurricanes and Over 170 Animal Species, Rockstar Tells Game Informer
Rain that falls in one part of the map while another stays sunny, puddles that stay after the storm, tropical storms and hurricanes, and more than 170 species, including rhesus macaque monkeys.
Confirmed — Rockstar detailed both systems for Game Informer’s issue 382 cover story, which went live digitally on September 29, and Game Informer published the key points free on its own site.
Weather: dynamic cloudscapes roll across Leonida, and storms are localized: “you can occupy a dry, sunny area and spot storms in the distance where it is actually pouring down.” Drive there after it passes and you’ll find persistent puddles and wet surfaces, and “under the right lighting conditions, you can even spot rainbows.” Tropical storms and seasonal hurricanes are in the game too.
Wildlife: “over 170 animal species across land, air, and sea, several of which have never appeared in a Rockstar Game.” Native Florida animals such as flamingos, manatees, pelicans and alligators share Leonida with invasive ones: green iguanas, cane toads, feral cats and rhesus macaque monkeys. Some animals are categorised as Rare, Discoverable and Legendary and can be tracked; which ones is being kept secret.
The limit of this story: Game Informer itself says “we don’t know how often these larger, more violent storms occur or how they affect gameplay and storytelling.” The full cover story, with the developer quotes, is free in the Game Informer app (Rockstar partnered with Game Informer to make it free); this story reports what Game Informer published on its site.
Corrected September 30, 2026: an earlier version said the cover story was paid or paywalled. Rockstar says it partnered with Game Informer to make the cover story free in the Game Informer app.
