Photos of a Giant “Vice City Leonida” Box Are Not a Collector’s Edition Announcement

Unverified. The poster said they worked at a packaging company in Mexico and spent a month on the job; the photos show a black box bigger than a PS5’s, with “Vice City Leonida” on the lid and the VI logo on the sides, and inner compartments including a round recess that some read as a disc slot. The posts were deleted. No outlet has authenticated them and Rockstar has said nothing.

Plausible explanations other than a retail edition: a press or influencer kit, a mock-up, or unrelated packaging. One insider rated the photos “90% real”; an insider’s estimate is not verification.

What is on the record: Rockstar has announced Standard ($79.99) and Ultimate ($99.99), both digital content, and the physical box is a download code, not a disc. Rockstar has made collector’s editions before, so it is not impossible — but a disc-shaped hole in a photo is not evidence of a disc.

Update, September 14: closer photos of the box’s contents, shared by a fan account after it contacted the original poster, show a branded T-shirt, a trucker cap, a sticker sheet, a keyring and a welcome card — no statue, no art book, no steelbook. That is what publishers mail to press and creators before a launch, not what a retail collector’s edition contains. Still Unverified, still no comment from Rockstar, still two editions on sale.

Update, September 25: Rockstar has now put a $399.99 merch box, The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, on pre-order — game sold separately. Its listed contents (a gator figure, sunglasses, a bag, a New Era cap, a shot glass and more) do not match the box in these photos. Rockstar still sells two editions of the game.
